The easiest way to make an on-a-budget backdrop is by painting a canvas. As we have mentioned earlier, it is always expensive to purchase the canvas from the painter. So, if you need to paint it on your own then you should do it. Feel free to purchase several pieces of canvas and paint them in several colors.

2. Parchment Paper

 

If you want to get the image of airy and bright imagery, both natural and white parchment paper would give you a flawless look. Parchment paper will be good for DIY food photography background especially for baked goods. 

Meanwhile, the natural color of parchment paper would compliment meaty foods. You can mix it with other backdrops, crumple the paper for added texture, or cut it squares.

3. Wooden Cutting Boards

 

On the other hand, the wooden cutting board can act as a nice backdrop as well. You can also function as a layer as well. If you decide to use a cutting board for a food backdrop, you can choose a cutting board with coarse grain. However, we do not recommend you choose the yellowish or orange tinge considering it could be unflattering to foods.

As a photographer or food blogger, having various linens would come in handy. It does not always have to be linen. You can enrich your collections by purchasing natural fabric and other patterned damask cloths. 

We highly recommend you stick with neutral colors. Feel free to layer the backdrop to make a more attractive look.

5. Old Cookie Sheet

 

Other attractive food shots can be gained by using an old cookie sheet. The popularity is getting higher because even wooden backdrop suppliers paint the wood until it looks like an old cookie sheet. 

So, if you have cookie sheets then you can make it look distressed for food backgrounds. This look can be reached by coating the sheet with oil or butter and baking it with high heat.
